The Lawyer & Jesus

 Blue  v25-37  Ch 10  Luke
In case, Jesus answered the question with a question, probably because argumentive people don't really like to be told what to do, even when asking a question, and, Jesus knew the lawyer didn't really care so He didn't answer the direct question.

v25...a certain lawyer...v29 wanting to justify himself
          (how typical) (appropriate)

v25...a certain lawyer stood up and tested Jesus, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"  (Jesus gives the guy an opportunity to lead, since lawyers love leading the witness if they can get away with it)

v26 Jesus said to the lawyer, "What is written in the law? (that right there is just dually funny)  What is your reading of it?"  (Jesus seemed to know who his real friends were)

The lawyer answered right (v27) but because he wanted to justify himself (v29) and play dumb blond, he said to Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?"  (people who really want to obey by loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself (v27) wouldn't need this defined - besides, the smart dumb lawyer already knew the answer, so Jesus answered the fool according to his folly and gave him an irrefutable answer by detailing the perfect story which by the end of it had the lawyer personally testifying of the mercy (v37) given to his newly defined neighbor. (amazing how Jesus put the lawyer on the witness stand)
