Assumptive Limitation
Blue v49-50 Ch 9 LukeThe guys had put the limitation on Jesus, assuming what their knowledge perceived without regarding the wide spread knowledge of an unlimited Christ. Just because your group does it or doesn't do it doesn't mean Christ can't be having another group do it or not do it. It's not based on what we know, and it is based on what He knows so, Jesus told John not to forbid a person from flowing in their gift because those who are not against you are on your side (v50). John and a few of the others had a hard time connecting Jesus to this person they had seen casting out demons in Jesus name because that person didn't hang with their group (v49). I wonder if John thought this guy couldn't possibly have known Jesus? Limiting Jesus' relationships strictly to the natural realm, even though the story revolves around the supernatural... hmm? And the irony of it all? A few stories back the disciples couldn't cast out a demon, and these were the ones that had Jesus really close, yet this guy, never seen walking in the group could do it with just His Name... that's funny! Maybe John was secretly jealous...hmm? And so attacking the guy who they thought didn't know Jesus as well was easy to do. Off to more training we go~
