Blue v1-6 Ch 9 Luke
Jesus had already been walking with these guys, teaching them many things as He demonstrated relationship through correction, confrontation, faithfulness, listening to people, answering people, dealing with accusation, signs and wonders, deep concern, penetrating messages, obedience to Father God instead of the demands of needy man, He rebuked demons, paid taxes, overseen special event crowds while supplying the miracles and food, taught the Bible in church, loved His enemies, forgave His friends, kept busy about the Father's business... and so after all that LIVE Demonstration is when Jesus called out those He had already been walking with (v1) and then He gave them power and authority (v1) over all demons, and to cure diseases, BUT He hadn't given them this power prior to first demonstrating it and showing them THE WAY in which to walk it out which first required spending time in His Presence and seeing how He does it, seeing how He handled it since it's about Who you know, not who you can buy, own, or control, and then afterwards He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick (v2), after receiving specific instructions (v3-5), then they departed and went through the towns preaching the gospel and healing (v6).
