The Boat
Blue v3-10 Ch 5 Lukev4 Jesus told Simon (Peter) to, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." See, the guys had been fishing all night and didn't catch a thing (v5)! James and John (brothers and disciples also, were partners with Simon Peter in this fishing business (v10), and after Simon felt the need to express to Jesus that they had been trying hard all night without any success, it was a little difficult for Simon to be told what to do when already trying everything he knew, including this, and it didn't work! BUT now Jesus recommended doing it over and it seemed a little ridiculous to do something they already did that night during all that hard and desperate toiling for results, yet somehow Simon agreed to do it because of having an element of belief in Jesus, but also Simon wanted Jesus to know first how they had already toiled all night so indirectly said don't get Your hopes up or put pressure on me after this great idea of Yours doesn't work. BUT to Simon Peter's surprise his obedience caught a great number of fish (6-7)! It actually filled not one BUT two boats until the boats started to sink beneath the weight. WOW!
Then we see how this Word of God's Goodness spoken to Simon in verse four became Romans 2:4 for Simon in verse 8 when Simon Peter admitted to Jesus as he fell down at Jesus' knees saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" See, the Goodness of God led Simon to repentance (Ro 2:4). Simon Peter was in a state of Mark 9:24 in his interaction with Jesus during this story; where Simon believed in Jesus on one hand but not fully on the other so you see "Lord, I believe, help my unbelief!" that is shown in Mark 9:24 now at work in Simon Peter. And notice that the whole story addressed Peter as Simon until he started to get back on the right track, then the story goes to calling him Simon Peter. In the future, once the doubt gets out of his heart, he is simply called Peter... the revelatory name that received the full revelation of Christ Jesus without any mix of doubt.
