Commissioned

v9-19  ch 16  Mark

You would think that after rising from the dead Jesus would get to enjoy some type of celebration but what happened first was He appeared to Mary Magdalene, who then told the others who had been with Jesus but they didn't believe her... hmm?  Why?  Because they knew her background, of how Jesus had to cast 7 demons out of her so they didn't really give her as much credit as a legitimate person?  Even wisdom is a "she" (Pro 4:7-8); and She appeared to a she first (v9), that's interesting.  But so they could get it, Jesus appeared in another form to two of them as they walked into the country (v12), so those 2 went and told the others but the guys didn't believe the guys either (v12-13).  What is their problem?  Confirmation at hand and now Jesus Himself appeared to the 11 but instead of getting to celebrate His Resurrection He had to take time out to rebuke them for their unbelief and hard heartedness (14), no none of this, "Hey guys how ya doin?  Miss Me? I'm back!"  But Jesus didn't let all of that spoil His success, He proceeded onward into delegating the Great Commission.

(We're in the world but not of it but) go into the world and preach the gospel (v15), he who believes AND is baptized will be saved... but he who does not believe will be condemned (v16).  And THESE signs will follow the believers... In the name of Jesus Christ we will cast out demons, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, deadly drinks won't harm us; we will lay hands on the sick and they will recover (v17-18).

Jesus then was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God... v19.  Remember how the two diciples wanted to sit on His right hand and on His left? Well, God is sitting on one side so can you imagine how ridiculous their request sounds now?  Now knowing that God is sitting in one of those seats!  It makes fighting over position so stupid.
