My Soul
Blue v34-38 Ch 14 Mark
Jesus said, "My soul {5590=psuche=breath, i.e. (by impl.) spirit} is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death- so He wanted His disciples to stay there and to watch v34.
As Jesus prayed in the garden, knowing that soon He will be betrayed and delivered up, He had already pointed out to Simon Peter (who again struggled with following well), how that the spirit (4151=pneuma=current of air, i.e. breath, etc.) is willing but the flesh is weak. v38
Spirit and Soul have this way of interchanging but it's kind of like how the potato can be made into different varieties from french fries, potato cakes, mashed, baked, boiled, hashbrowns... all having a slightly different taste, texture, and feel, but it is still a potato. The spirit and soul do resemble this potato concept but around God's Word both can actually be divided as God's Word discerns the thoughts and intents of our heart (Heb 4:12).
As Jesus faced the intensity of His earthly destiny, Father God's Word divided Jesus' Soul from His Spirit as Father seen obedience in Jesus' heart even though Jesus' soul was struggling with the fact that going to the cross would be so painful, and yes, the flesh is weaker than the spirit... if Father has an easiser way, please, could we just do that, but even though the soul is weaker than the spirit, Jesus still lived in the Spirit and His heart was right, and Jesus was able to overcome the desire of His soul's weakness and then obey Father's higher will for His Life and fulfill His destiny of having to die then rise for our sins. There was nothing easy about that. The reward does not come first. But the reward is what made it worth it~
