Blue v12 Ch 24 Matt
The word lawlessness is not listed in Strong's (red) but "ness" on the end of a word means to give an example of or to be doing what the first part of that word means; so "ness" is to exemplify or demonstrate the state of being without law or "lawless".
After comparing Matthew 24:12 to 1 Timothy 1:9 because lawless did make the Strong's (red) list in this verse... let's check it out after you hear the story.
Last week Mike went over to Lowe's for some materials when this guy near the Bread Company approached him dressed decently, speaking sincerely, mentioning how he was out of gas, lived in Arnold yet had left his wallet at home (but did show Mike his license) so just needed a little gas and gas can, offering to get in touch with Mike during the week to get whatever money back to Mike. Mike gave the guy a business card along with the nine bucks he had left in his wallet, thinking the guy to be legitimate!
Well... today Mike went back over to Lowe's for more stuff only to see there that same car, same guy, doing the same thing in the same parking lot, only this time rage had set-in and set off that construction worker potty mouth after Mike deliberately parked in front of the guy's car where he intended to confront him and did. The guy never called because he was scamming people and Mike caught him.
In our discussion later on i told Mike that his rage came from a build up of all the other people who have been stealing from him and this guy set it off because you are sick of it.
In Matthew it speaks of the love of many growing cold but for reason of lawlessness... Like this scammer guy who is without law by taking advantage of good hearted givers like Mike who want to give but then don't want to give because it isn't really about giving anymore, only people taking. Can't build a healthy relationship on that! Once someone does this to you, especially more than once, it gets easier the next time to harden your heart, not because you want to, but because people like this guy send the message that other people don't matter because it's ok to take hard earned money for free, and who cares about lying to Mike about paying him back. So what is happening is separation... the bible says sins separates. Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness (1 Jn 3:4). This guy is sinning against Mike and sinning against God Who commanded us not to steal. It's easy to see the separation, not proper relationship building, taking place here in what had happened. Christians aren't hardening their heart because of any lack of God's Love but because of those who practice lawlessness and who don't have God influencing their lives. And when i say God this means Jesus Christ.
...knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person (yes because you don't correct those who are obeying), but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, v10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, v11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust (1 Tim 1:9-11).
The purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith (v5). How can you love from a pure heart when your lying and scamming somebody?
That's why we need Jesus... this is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom i am chief (v15)... for this reason i obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life (v16).
