The King & A Prophet
Blue Ch 23 2 Kgs
After king Josiah had taken down many idols, burned several high places, and did away with the pagan priests, Josiah then (v16) looked around, and when he saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, he had the bones removed from them and burned them on the altar to defile it, in accordance with the Word of the LORD proclaimed by the man of God who foretold these things.
v17 The king asked, "What is that tombstone I see?"
The men of the city said, "It marks the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced against this altar of Bethel the very things you have done to it."
How neat that Josiah got to experience this knowledge... getting to hear how God intended to have His hand on him, even support what he was doing, for this prophesy given years earlier spoke of how Josiah would be used to tear down the high places and here he was doing just that, watching prophecy come to pass around the 18th year of his reign and right before his eyes. For remember, Josiah only became king at the age of 8, he wasn't at that altar when the prophet spoke out this prophecy from the LORD that foretold Josiah's future; so this is royally cool!
Just like i wasn't even born yet in 1904 when Maria Woodsworth Etter prophesied at The World Fair in St. Louis how St. Louis was called and chosen...to scatter the gospel to all parts of the world...
A preacher once said, "Just because you can do it all doesn't mean you should." This is good wisdom. It is best to find out what God wants to back up then go for that, at least you'll know that the fruit will be good and the battle will have been worth it! Or even better, because of the obedience to the calling of His Will, the flow diminishes the heavy battling because faith is following along quite well.
