Instead of punishing the Aramean officers who were sent to capture Elisha because their king didn't appreciate how Elisha accurately exposed his agenda, so blamed him for messing it up! Elisha had to pray them into blindness so these men would not recognize him since he was leading them into Samaria because ironically they believed him when he said there is where the man is whom they were looking for. Once they arrived Elisha prayed again, asking the LORD to open their eyes, only this time it was the King of Israel asking Elisha if he should kill them?
No, not with the sword. Kill them with kindness. Give them food and water and let them go home. This is what stopped Aram from raiding Israel's territory.
The Aramean's thought Israel was the bad guy. Mistakingly thought Elisha must be the bad guy too. It wasn't true. By learning through first hand experience because of walking straight into enemy territory without violent retaliation, these men had experienced the God Who spared human life because He is Kind and Generous.
