Blue  v13-14   Ch 15   1 Kgs

v13  Asa deposed of the queen mother (his grandmother Maacah) from her position because she made a repulsive Asherah pole (going against the will of God).

Asa understood the future consequences so wanted to stop his grandmother and the negative affects her influence would have on the people since he found the way to be life-giving is to commit to the LORD and practice His will.  This was the example he wanted people to see.

v14  Asa's heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.

So true for he experienced Matthew 12:48-50 where Jesus answered and said to the guy who asked Him, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?"  So Jesus stretched out His hand toward His discipled followers and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!  Whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother." 

There's your earthly family then there's your real family, your spiritual family.  Depending on what side you are on will determine who your real family is... i know by experience that the world hates you when you're not a part of it and belong to God even though God has a way of making your enemies be at peace with you; sometimes He just prepares a table for you in their presence but i'm sure Asa loved his grandmother because of the bloodline commonality but also he knew how to take up his cross and follow (Mt 10:36-39) and sometimes that means leaving this world behind~
