v9 The LORD became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, Who had appeared to him twice. v10 Although He had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD's command. v11 So the LORD said to Solomon, "Since this is your attitude and you have not kept My Covenant and My degrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.

Ouch! He learned the wrong way~

One day the mother was baking birthday cookies and said to her child not to touch the stove because it was hot and it will burn her hands, but the child didn't believe her mother fully to simply take her at her word so proceeded toward the stove and touched it hoping to peak on the cookies. It was HOT! Startled, the little girl jumped back and screamed in pain as her mother came running in, listening to her daughter repeat how she burned her hand and how it hurts! The little girl learned not to touch the stove but she learned it the wrong way. She could have avoided the pain and learned by obeying her mother without the personal and painful experience.

Walking hand in hand is more about trust and even less about control~
