It's not a dream, it really happened~
After one thousand sacrifices in Gibeon (v4) the LORD appeared to Solomon in his dream and said, "Ask for whatever you want Me to give you (v5)." So Solomon recognized how God made him king and admitted to being His servant but that he felt like a little child, not knowing how to carry out his duties (v7). The Lord was pleased (v10) that Solomon had not asked for long life (v11), wealth for himself (v11), or the death of his enemies (v11). That's pretty discerning for someone who felt only like a child and very inadequate, although the propensity to be wise had revealed itself once Solomon answered the LORD's question:v9 Please give Your servant a discerning heart to govern Your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.
