Exhortation
v36 Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and live there, but do not go anywhere else.
build yourself a house = we are the building house, the temple of the
Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19); the virgin-bride
readily preparing herself (Mt 25).
Jerusalem and live = in the city of peace we live in the New Jerusalem
that comes down out of heaven (Rev 21:2) straight
into our heart.
It's Also A Warning
To accept God's Salvation then leave His City of Peace (v36 Jerusalem=Christ Jesus=the Prince of Peace) and backslide (v36 going somewhere else=dog returning to the vomit of sin (2 Pt 2:22) the end will result in spiritual and/or physical death (v46/Ro 6:23), which Shimei experienced because he needed to stop and think first about his previous commitment so in seeing his word again, that which needed to be followed all the way through, life would then be kept.
