Seemingly HarmlessKing David told his son Solomon to use his wisdom on what to do with Shimei (1 Kg 2:9). Apparently Solomon and Shimei had an agreement that on the day Shimei left Jerusalem to go anywhere else he was to be put to death and Shimei did swear by the LORD that he would obey (v36-42).
Then one day 3 years later, two of Shimei's slaves ran off to Gath (v40) and Shimei didn't stop to consider what he was about to do, how it would affect the decision he made previously, for right after being told this he saddled his donkey and took off... OOPS!Solomon found out and (v41)...
Confronted (v42)...
Exposed (v44)... Worked Justice (v44)...
Confirmed God's Will (v45).
v41 Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem
v42 the king summoned Shimei and said...
v44 you know in your heart all the wrong you did to my father David
v44 now the LORD will repay you for your wrongdoing
v45 but king Solomon will be blessed (Solomon is saying this) and David's
throne will remain secure before the LORD forever.
