Now David was reminding Solomon of the time Shimei had cussed him out using very strong accusations (2 Sam 16:5-8).
v8 And remember, you have with you Shimei...who called bitter curses on me the day i went to Mahanaim.
Even though it appeared on the surface that Shimei was dismissed for his behavior because on the day Shimei meet him down at the Jordan David had sworn to God that he "will not put Shimei to death by the sword." David now told Solomon to consider him... that Shimei is not innocent (v9); Solomon was to carry out the day of reckoning:
He touched God's anointed~
Touch not God's anointed (1 Chr 16:22)
He sowed bitter words~
The law of reaping what you sow (Gal 6:7)
He cursed those in authority~
Pray for those in authority that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life (1 Tim 2: 1-2)
We can still be saved even if we are being corrected~If we are being hurt we don't have to worry about our persecutor being punished~
It's far better to spend time concentrating on the Mercy for the rest will take care of itself, and by yielding to Christ Jesus we can actually get rid of these negative cycles to promote the love we all prefer.
Patience will help to process any story so in the case where we don't like what we see, Patience will provide the necessary time so that something good about it can be revealed so that we may focus on that and avoid jumping the gun of judgment like Shimei did with David. Had Shimei waited he would have learned that God was using David for his purposes to fight some battles so really what Shimei was doing was fighting what God was doing for the overall common good of the people...
