In The Advice
Blue v14-23 Ch 17 2 SamDownload | Duration: 00:03:55
v14 The advice of Hushai is better than that of Ahithophel.
16:23 In those days the advice Ahithophel gave was like one who inquires of God. That's how both David and Absalom regarded all of Ahithophel advice.
15:32-35 David asked Hushai to go back to serve Absalom for the purpose of frustrating Ahithopel's counsel and to use him as an informant so after Absalom had arranged the plan of attack against David, he could be informed.
v14 The LORD had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom.
Profiling Ahithophel - Melancholy
Perfectionist - the one time he sees his advice not followed, his track
record less than perfect, he goes to hang himself (v23).
Faithful - is used to people coming to him for advice to receive from
his well practiced, very accurate gift of counsel, which at
times caused even major plans to come into play (16:21,23).
~Your Greatest Strength is also Your Greatest Weakness
Ahithophel's gift of counsel participated in helping fulfill the Word of Judgment against David. This gift worked so well that eventually God had to frustrate it (v14) or it would have successfully counseled David's destruction but since God had another Word of Promise over David that pertained to a future (Jer 29:11), we see life is more powerful than death (1 Cor 15:54); mercy triumphs over judgment (Jms 2:13); and the Foundation of God's Throne (Ps 89:14) is Righteousness {(judgment against sin (Jn 12:31)} and Justice {His Grace to save you from sin (Ep2:8)}.
Once Father God decides to save you, nothing at this point can separate you from Him (Ro 8:35); not the mistake from your sin that He already judged because He delights in the Salvation of Jesus Who has begun a good work in you and Christ will be Faithful to complete it (Phil 1:6).
