Can you imagine the emotional pain Mephibosheth felt during his life after having lost his dad and his brothers in war, being crippled in both feet because of being dropped on the floor as a young boy, what he felt...? He thought of himself as a dead dog (v8). This is very sad. God didn't mess up when He made Mephibosheth- The king was seeking him out, ready to show kindness (v7), ready to restore all the land that belonged to his grandfather (v7), and just when Mephi was at his lowest and thought nobody loved him, he had nothing to offer, nothing of value within himself- The king declared v7: "You will always eat at My table."
