v17-18 The Philistines spread out full force in the Valley of Rephaim (valley of giants) to come against David (the Beloved).

It's not always possible to stop situations that seem bigger or overwhelming from coming against your life but because of having the personal relationship with Father God, by checking in with Him about what to do (v19), Father granted David (Beloved=sym. for Jesus) victory (v19-20/1 Cor 2:12), and since our lives are hidden in Christ (Gal 2:20) we will get the victory too (1 Cor 1:27-28).
