He Wept
Blue v25-32 Ch 3 2 SamDownload | Duration: 00:01:59
He didn't respond the way you thought he would. He wept (v32, Jn 11:35). Commander Joab had been serving David for a long time but took vengeance into his own hands by murdering Commander Abner who had defected over onto their side. Joab punished Abner for killing his brother in a previous battle (v25) while Joab wanted David to believe that Abner was only a deceiver and a spy. David didn't rejoice over what sin seemed to have received justice. God never rejoices in the death of the one who dies (Ez 19:32), nor rejoice in iniquity (1 Cor 13:6). It's inevitable for consequence to catch up with action (Gal 6:7) but God never rejoices over all the pain going on no matter who is to blame. God is not the one trying to punish everybody (Jn 3:16).
