Value in 70x7

He is one of those kind of people that wear you out.  v21 What's amazing about Saul is after he sinned he would admit it then tell you "again" how he acted like a fool and won't do it again.

So he does it again only you're left to practice the "70x7" formula on him (Mt 18:21-2) just to keep the bitterness out of your own spirit.  At least he confesses so forgiving Saul is easier but it wears you out, so to overcome this exhausting relationship, you remind yourself how the LORD rewards every man for his righteousness and faithfulness (v22) then value their life so the LORD will value your life and deliver you from trouble (v24).

David practiced loving his neighbor as himself (Lev 19:18, Mt 5:43-5, 7:12) as he did choose to value Saul's life apart from thinking on what Saul really deserved, because David himself wanted to be valued, and knew value is what he would reap if value is what he had sown (Gal 6:7).
