v32 David said to Saul that he would go out and fight Goliath.

Previous success convinced David he could win against a problem that was bigger than himself because he did it 2x's before when he had to fight to win for his survival (v34-35).
The reason David thought he would win this time also is because (v36) Goliath defied the armies of the living God, it was not for the personal reason to save himself or some position he held so that pridefully he could let everyone know that nobody is to mess with David. David credited God as the source and reason for the other victories (v37), and fully believed that the LORD would deliver him and all Israel from this experienced war-killing giant.
David did what he did "With God," not willing to leave God out of the equation so that all things did become possible for him.
Once the leaders seen this, you see Saul giving David his blessing and approval, "Go (do it), the LORD be with you."
