v13 David has 3 older brothers in the army.
v16 Goliath threatened Israel using his size to intimate
and he did this for 40dys.
v18 David's dad is worried and wants to know his 3 enlisted
        sons are alright.

Face to Face: v21 Israel & the Philistines were drawing up their lines facing each other.  v22 David ran to the battle lines and greeted his brothers to get the report his dad wanted when while they were talking Goliath gave his usual verbal defiance only this time David heard it (v23).

v24 At face value it was scary so the Israelites ran in great fear.

 The Incentive
great wealth
marry the king's daughter
doesn't have to pay anymore taxes

v26 young David - what will be done for the man
                                                         who kills Goliath and removes
                                                         this disgrace from Israel?
oh no you didn't                   - who is this guy that he should
should defy the armies of the
                                                        living God?

v26 David's oldest brother is very critical of him.  v29 David feels exasperated like he can never measure up as his brother (operating in the natural) is accusing him of being conceited, wicked, and only there to watch (v28).  That is not why David was there, their dad sent him there (v18).  The accusations came out of Eliab's anger "he burned with anger (v28)".  Eliab had room to grow.
