Officer

 Blue  v1-7  Ch 8  1 Sam

v1 Samuel appointed his sons as judges but (v2) the 2 boys (Joel/Abijah) v3 did not walk in his ways because of gaining things dishonestly, accepting bribes, and perverting justice.  v4 When the elders came to Samuel to complain then also came the request (v) to have a king be appointed to lead them since Samuel was old and since his sons wouldn't walk in his ways but this (v6) displeased Samuel so he prayed and (v7) the LORD told him, "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their King."

Samuel stood in the five-fold ministry (Ep 4:11) headship gifting.  Headship gifting represents God's Authority & Government and it was being rejected because although Samuel handled the office well, whenever he appointed his sons to do the same they failed to follow God and so looked like the evil worldly rulers instead.  The abuse of position resulted in the people turning toward the world or the way of the world for answers and leadership.  It was a sad demotion to want the natural over the spiritual leadership which is able to look well after the soul.  And even though the 2 sons in position weren't handling it well, God still looked at the position as if He Himself was being rejected because God, unlike us, does not change His commitments or His giftings but will remain faithful to them even when we don't.  It seems that the wisdom from above (Jms 3:17) would have asked for the 2 sons to be removed so then it wouldn't be necessary to ask for an entirely new system (worldly) when the one God had Samuel operating in (spiritually) wasn't broken and this the elders agreed upon.

The 5 Fold Ministry Gift that Jesus gave were pastors, prophets, teachers, apostles, evangelists, to help feed His Body.
