Jephthah's Story
Son of a prostitute
Rejected by Family
Restored & Promoted into leadership by family
Arbitration
Confrontation
Challenged by doubt & unbelief
Made reinforcing vow to the LORD
War Victory

Somewhere inbetween all that we need to throw in on the list rejection from where Jephthah, probably before making that vow, had asked for help from his family the Ephraimites but they didn't help (v2) and now, after his War Victory over the Ammonites, are accusing him of not asking them (v1) but even he did ask, and now they want to beat the craup out of him (v1, 3) because some lazy, nonchalant, didn't care about his job messenger had dropped the ball causing this communication problem.  It's amazing how quick Accusation entered the story when it didn't even know the real story.

The Ephraimites accuse Jephthah the Gileadite
"You Gileadites are renegades from Ephraim & Manasseh" (v4)

Just like how the Jews turned on one of their own and made Jesus the outcast, so Ephraim turned on Jephthah making him the renegade outcast, except it was the outcast that rose up to swallow death in His victory because both Jesus and Jephthah were innocent.  The evil intended for them had returned on the head of the wicked, again revealing that the story you give away or intend for someone else is the story you're going to get for yourself.
