Gideon Did It
Blue v29-40 Ch 6 Jud

It's interesting that Gideon knew what God had said but didn't believe God was really going to do it. Maybe Gideon grew used to seeing people say they were going to do something then cared so little about keeping their word that he assumed God acted the same way? Don't know, but as long as Gideon could resort to this tangible act of fleecing to prove to himself that God isn't like that, this somehow gave Gideon the push he needed to go ahead and believe in God, believe God wasn't like someone who doesn't keep their word. Gideon didn't have any right to doubt God and he knew this but he just needed that push so used his fleece idea to try and help himself and was even a little worried about his behavior, he didn't want God to get upset with him for not simply believing so you can see this in the mercy he is asking for with his question, "Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece." Gideon was so insecure he needed to do all this extra stuff to convince himself it was ok to obey God. And God is so Good and Loved Gideon that He let Gideon do this.
