            3rd largest city in Lebanon on Mediterranean coast, north of Tyre.
                           Tyre founded by a colonzing party from Sidon.

 The Castle of St. Louis or Qalaat Al Muizz, South of Old Souks near Murex Hill - Lebanon.

             Named for Noah's Grandson Canaan, his 1stborn  (Gn 10:15, 19)

  Sidon Sea Castle

(Mt 15:21, Mk 3:8) Jesus visited the coast of Sidon, the mother city of Tyre.  The Tribe of Asher was to subdue it but didn't (Jud 1:31).  Jezebel was a Sidonian princess (1 Kgs 16:31) but her controlling nature didn't stop Elijah in Zarephath, Lebanon (between Sidon & Tyre) from performing miracles with food and raising the widow's son up (1Kgs 17:8-24).

Tyre built herself a tower (Zec 9:3), Tyre & Sidon, though they are very wise (v2) the LORD will cast her out, destroy her power in the sea (4) unless from the seacoast of Tyre & Sidon, they again return to the Son of Man (JC) and be healed of their diseases (Lk 6:17).

The city was conquered by many: Assyrians
                                                            Babylonians
                                                            Egyptians
                                                            Greeks
                                                            Romans
                                                            Arabs
                                                            Ottoman Turks
                                                            Invaded by Alexander the Great during
                                                                 the HELLenistic Era. 

After WWI it became part of the French mandate of Lebanon.  During WWII it was captured by the British, afterwards it became a major city of independent Lebanon.
