Glory Joy 4 Dessertv13...Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up & saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword. Joshua went up to him asking, "Are you for us or for our enemies?"
looking down = look up to see it's right in front of you
approachable = felt safe enough to approach though sword is drawn
What exactly was Josh going to do had the answer been, "I'm for your enemies?"
Josh knew the answer before asking the question. Had Joshua really believed the Man standing with sword drawn was for his enemies it's doubtful he would have casually walked up to ask this question since this meant he would be accepting the challenge of the drawn sword, willing also to engage it, accepting any possible consequences from the outcome...
Besides, who walks up to someone with a drawn sword without having some kind of weapon yourself? What wisdom is that? What plan? If Joshua didn't know something deep down in his spirit, something apart from his mental mind & intellectual knowledge, it's unlikely this intelligent leader would do this, even less likely that he would send himself, the leader of the company, when there are trained soldiers for the job. No, Josh knew in spirit what he didn't know in his mind and this knowing freed him to proceed onward, knowing deep down that
everything was going to be alright.
Angel of the LORD appearing as a Man
v14 The Man (Angel in disguise - Sword of the LORD) responded to being for "Neither," friend or foe but "as Commander of the Army of the LORD I have now come."
The Angel of the LORD came to promote the LORD's Will without partiality. Once Joshua figured out He was in the Presence of the LORD he fell face down in reverence, asking for the message from the LORD, admitting to being His servant.
v15 The Commander of the LORD's army replied not to Joshua with a message concerning his successful future, not concerning his financial gain, not about his health, the Angel of the LORD pointed to the direct message of being in the Presence of Holiness.
"Take off your shoes, the place where you are standing is holy."
Joshua didn't ask questions at that point. He didn't fast. Didn't get out his bible to check for verse applications. Didn't seek the board for wise counsel & confirmation. Didn't sing. Joshua stood in the Presence of True Wisdom unable to speak. Once the LORD speaks It's Something You Just Know, a Knowing, and you know just to obey.
Joshua obeyed the Spirit of the LORD, the Angel of the LORD of Hosts.
