v23 donkey sees... Angel of the Lord... standing in the road
v24 donkey sees... Angel of the Lord... in the narrow pathway
v26  donkey sees... Angel of the Lord... standing in a narrow place

Balaam was so wrapped up in his pride he's not even shocked that he's talking to a donkey.  That a donkey is talking like a human.  He should have been awed, amazed, scientifically seeking to figure out how this was possible, it would have been a more normal response to one conversing with a donkey.  Instead, his anger had him all wrapped up in the thought of looking like a fool as if this was most important......  impressing people.  It was now the donkey seeking to bring Balaam back into rational thinking... v30 "Am I not your donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?"  In essence the donkey is saying STOP & THINK!  You've beat me 3x's and the 3rd time you used your staff, that's a No-no.  I didn't lead you into the field, or crunch your foot against the wall, or lay down and stop moving for no GOOD REASON.

v31 Then the LORD opened Balaam's Eyes  to the straight and narrow path and what it's really for.  And after Balaam admitted he sinned (v34), he then got to bring some really good WORDS to Israel, knowing that you can't curse what God hasn't cursed (23:8).
