Face

Blue     Ex Ch 33

The LORD would speak to Moses

Face to face, as a man speaks to his friend v11.

v23 ...I will remove My Hand and you will see My Back; but My Face must not be seen.

hmmm?

Moses wants to see Father's Glory...
  1.  Moses is called by name v12, 17
  2.  He has God's Favor v12
  3.  The LORD is well pleased with him v17

Moses is uncertain about leading and wants to know who is going to help him so Father said His Presence would v12-14.

Moses doesn't seem to like doing things by himself, he wants reassurance that everything is going to be alright so he throws some stuff out there hoping the LORD's answer will bring him the security he is seeking.  After the LORD tells Moses He is pleased with him and knows him by name (reassuring him that he is doing a good job, do you think i'd be calling you by name if you weren't?), Moses then wants to see His Glory.  And instead of saying no because people die for seeing His Face, He teaches Moses something about His Glory, for remember, Moses already speaks to the LORD Face to face so what was God talking about?

                                     Inside the Glory

  • all God's goodness
  • proclamation that the LORD's Name is (relationally) Father God
  • Father will give mercy & compassion to whomever He wants

v21 Then the LORD said, "There is a place near Me where you may stand on a rock (Jesus). v22 When My Glory (Christ) passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the Rock (hidden in Christ Jesus) and cover you with My Hand (hand of salvation) until I have passed by.

Moses is to stand next to Father in Christ Jesus the Rock Who will hide Moses with His Righteous Right Hand of Salvation.

Isa 46:10 He tells the End from the Beginning
God always tells His friends what He is doing (Jn 15:15), Moses was His friend

Inside the Glory      Father & Son
Jesus Christ is the Glory of God
Jesus Christ is Lord to the Glory of God the Father

Seeing His back but not His Face in v23 is interesting, and likely on account of the fact that although Jesus had been slain before the foundation of the world, He had yet to be sent to earth in flesh form to fulfill Matthew 6:10 wherein Father's Will is completed on earth as it is in heaven.  (Moses was allowed to see Father's Face/Voice, and speak Face to face with Him- or what we call Spirit to spirit.) It's just awesome that Moses got to know God like this~
