Relational
Blue Ex Ch 32
we need to talk about this...
Interesting is the relationship Moses and Father God are having... God really shares. v7 the LORD is telling Moses how these are his people and that he brought them out of Egypt. Then in v11 Moses is telling the LORD that they are His people and that He brought them out of Egypt.
It's like saying, "they're you're people," no, "they're Your people." They are so one with each other. God wasn't acting like the Great Big Person You better bow down and fear or else! He was so humble about it. Nor did He act like some arrogant pig who takes all the credit for everything whenever something good happens. He treated it like team work by showing Moses equal place. Even further is Father's humility when He let Moses minister to Him using reason & intercession.
v12 (moses speaking) Why should the Egyptians say, 'It was with evil intent that He brought them out...'
v12 Then Moses intercedes... not for sin, in the meaning of save this soul, but in the meaning of LORD, don't do what You're going to do (i love you and don't want people to say bad stuff about You)... the intercession was more over caring about God's identity and getting God not to be angry than it was over saving the sinful soul {although from this fruit the sinful soul would end up saved because good fruit only produces good fruit (Mt 7:17, 12:33)}.
Moses has a relationship going on here with Father God.
Go back to v12 and you can see Moses' man side talking to the LORD... Father God is not ensnared by the fear of man, He doesn't live under the opinion of fallen man nor man's ability to approve or reject you for something, so it really didn't matter what the Egyptians thought, yet because of the relationship, Father didn't reject Moses for his thought.
v12 Moses literally told the LORD, "Turn from Your fierce anger..." Wow! You gotta know the LORD to talk to Him like that... ~relationship will let you when the commitment is there.
v13 Then Moses "reasons" to convince the LORD why it is a good idea to do that... "Remember Your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom You swore by your own Self: I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars... I will give your descendants all this land I promised them..."
It almost sounds like the LORD is about to make a mistake by failing to kept His Word-Promise- Prophecy (which we all know is very important to the foundation of the gospel), yet here we see this Humble side of Him... it's not that He would fail, Sovereignty can do what it wants so failure is not necessarily an option, but it's that He let a human filled with the unity of love minister to Him and bring His Promise back into remembrance (Isa 43:26; Jn 14:26). That is so humble and so relational, so inclusive. It's Amazing! It also shows me that the LORD operates in emotion and He was mad! Mad enough to take the guy He loved who was pleasing Him then offer to make him into a great nation instead (v10). You've got to have the LORD's heart already to be able to turn that down because these people got Moses in trouble, they originally did not think he was supposed to lead them, they wanted to stone him, they complained constantly, blamed him, caused him a lot of spiritual work... it would be very tempting to say go ahead and do it LORD they are irritating. But when you're really in unity with the LORD's Mercy, you learn how to process all the craup, the Spirit of the LORD is inside you with this unique ability to unify {and you can literally see Moses being dead to self alive to Christ (Ro 6:11)}. You really can see it in v31 where Moses is asking to be blotted out also if Father doesn't want to forgive the sin of these people. It's like you can see God and God instead of God and Moses. Like the LORD acting in His Righteous Indignation(judment/justice) side, and Moses {(dead to self alive to the LORD (Ro 6:11)} acting in His Mercy side. Being in unity with the LORD works! Mercy triumphed over judgment (Jam 2:13) and the LORD relented (v14).
